About Wilks Tire & Battery Service

Wilks Tire & Battery Service was started in 1952 by Bill and Sara Wilks.  In the early years, Bill delivered batteries over a three state area while Sara ran the office.  In 1962, they moved their small location in downtown Albertville to the corner of the new four-lane highway where Hwy 75 meets Hwy 431. They entered the retreading industry and grew their business by being active in the local schools and community service.  In the mid 1970’s, sons Shane and Craig joined the business with their parents.  Twenty years later, Bill and Sara partially retired and turned over operations to their sons.  Taking what their parents had taught them about hard work, customer service, and being great leaders in the community, Craig and Shane expanded the family business into cities in the North Alabama area. 

From that small beginning in 1952, Wilks Tire & Battery Service now has four retail centers, three truck centers and one Goodyear Authorized Retread Plant.  With over 70 employees, that Shane and Craig call family, Wilks Tire & Battery Service is proud to say that their growth and success is attributed to great people.  Not only those associates that work for Wilks, but also the thousands of great customers they service each year. 

In 2002, Wilks Tire & Battery Service was first runner up for the statewide “Alabama Retailer of the Year” Award.  Later that year they placed first runner up in the “North Alabama BBB Torch Award,” for marketplace ethics.
